The Serge Giroux Golf Dream 2013

The Serge Giroux Golf Dream is a Canadian Professional Golfer's Association initiative with selected corporate partners to grant "Golf Dreams" to children with serious life-threatening illnesses. It is one of Canada's most unique community initiatives.

Each year, several deserving candidates are selected by a committee to participate in the "Dream". The event is named after Serge Giroux, our first candidate, who traveled to Orlando for the Golf Dream in October 1999 and died shortly after in January from complications with his illness. Serge was an infectious person with a big personality, a great sense of humour, a determined spirit and a tremendous passion for life. Each candidate for the dream must possess these qualities to be chosen.

Since 2000, 33 children and their families have been selected for the dream. Candidates have been selected from the Ottawa/Outaouais region.

To begin their "Dream" the chosen children and their families are honored at a first-class fundraiser at The Marshes golf club in the Ottawa region. The Serge Giroux Golf Dream Classic is held in May each year. The date in 2013 is Tuesday, May 21. Each event participant meets our Golf Dream candidates on the course as the kids become part of their "team" on several holes. Our candidates and their families are sent off on their adventure with the love and support of the participants.

In 2013, the children, their families and a "support team" will visit Orlando, FL from October 19-26, 2013. The group will visit the PGA Tour's Children's Miracle Network Classic and great professional golfers. The kids and their families are treated to the "best seats in the house" at the event and meet PGA Tour players. The children receive special "Disney" treatment during their stay in Orlando. The candidates also sample the game of golf in a fun, friendly Disney format. But, the "Dream" is not all about golf! The remainder of the time in Orlando is spent visiting Disney World, Sea World and Orlando theme parks. A highlight of the Dream is Cirque Du Soleil's "La Nouba" where the Dream kids and families experience a special show and meet the show's artists. A great support team joins the group for several days to help get the families organized and comfortable in Orlando, satisfy any needs they have and participate in special events and selected special dinners. The families and support team stay at a great Disney Resort.

The event is presented by the Ottawa PGA and supported by presenting partners including Snelling Paper (Randy Graham), The Dairy Farmers of Canada, Grey, Clark, Shih and Associates (Peter Clark) and Bleeker Stereo and TV. A host of community leaders also offer great support. Each group in the Golf Dream Classic in May plays with a PGA Golf Professional.
