    Head Professional of the Year
    Presenting the award for head Professional of the Year to Dany Lacombe are on the left Paul Carrothers and on the right of Dany, Dale Pedersen. Dany is the Head Professional at GreyHawk a clublink facility with 36 holes. Dany manages the complete facility and in his spare time has been Co-Captain along with Eric Robillard for the past two years.

    Dany not only manages the very busy facility but will also over see the construction of a new club house this coming year. Dany has volunteered a great deal of his time to the Ottawa PGA and as this is being posted he should be flying home from Florida where he helped John Haime with the three families that the members of the Ottawa PGA helped send to Disney world for a vacation.

    The awards committee can be proud of their selections for this year, all recipients and their fellow nomanees made the selection process difficult for the committee.
     
    Gala Evening and Awards
    The Canadian Professional Golfers Association Ottawa Zone held it's Presidents Gala Dinner and awards on Oct 20th at the Chateau Cartier resort. Pictured here is the Zone's new President Dale Pedersen (on the left) presenting Cody barbeau with his Past Presidents Jacket and the Placque.

    Dale thanked Cody  on behalf of the Ottawa Golf Professionals for all his hard work over the past two years as President and for the many years as a Director.
     
    Life Time Achievement Award
    Paul Carrothers Head Professional at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club was the chairperson for the awards night held in conjunction with the Presidents Gala.

    The lifetime achievement award was presented to Mr. Bob Bailey for his thirty plus years of service to area golf professionals. Bob was with Wilson Sports Equipment and was always willing to help the professionals in any way he could, you would see Bob many times during the summer offering advise and ideas to help the professional.



     
    Teacher of theYear
    Gregg Foley has been teaching for a number of years at the Kevin Haime Golf Center and has over those years learned the fine art of teaching the Golf Swing. His great skills have earned him the title of 2008 Teacher of the Year in the Ottawa PGA. This is a great honor bestowed upon Gregg by his peers and very well deserved.

    Gregg accepted on behalf of his Head Professional Kevin Haime who was out of town at the time,  the award for Junior Leader of the year 2008. Kevin has a foundation that helps young children find places to play golf and pays their memberships, he also donated money from his foundation for a scholarship to be awarded to a player from the Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour. Kevin devotes endless hours to the promotion of golf and his fellow Professionals, the honor is well deserved.
     
    Assistant of the Year
    The Harold Blackman Award for Assistant of the year was given to Mr. Brad Smith from the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club. Brad thanked his peers and congratulated the other nominees for the Award. Brad said that it really was a team effort that allowed him to win the award and thanked all the other Pro-Shop Staff for all their help.
     
    Ottawa PGA Champion
    Chris Barber from the Landings Golf & Teaching Center in Kingston Ontario won the Ottawa PGA 36 hole Championship held at the GreyHawk facility. Chris has won the Championship 3 out of the last four year.

    Chris was also part of a four man team representing the Ottawa PGA at the Canadian Assistant's Championship held in Quebec, the other team members were Derek MacDonald, Roger Beale and Martin Rog.
     
    The 2008 Callaway Cup
    Monday September 15th the results of the morning matches were as follows, Jean Leduc defeated Barry Laphen, Mike Dagenais defeated Marc Blais, Jonathan Schaepper defeated John Watson, Marc Levac defeated Luke Saunders, Terry Kolar defeated Jason Winters, Darrell Buchanan defeated Bill Minkhorst, Dale Pedersen defeated Martin Rog and Graham Gunn defeated Marc Foucault.

    The results of the Afternoon matches were as follows, Jean Leduc defeated Mike Dagenais, Marc Levac defeated Jonathan Schaepper, Terry Kolar defeated Darrell Buchanan, and Graham Gunn defeated Dale Pedersen.

    Tuesday September 16th the results of the morning matches were as follows, Jean Leduc defeated Marc Levac and Terry Kolar defeated Graham Gunn which left Terry Kolar and Jean Leduc to playoff in the afternoon and Jean Leduc was victorious winning the first Ottawa PGA Callaway Cup.
     
    The 2008 Callaway Cup
    During the 2008 season players received points from each tournament they played in depending on where they placed in the event. When all was said and done after the second round of the Ottawa CPGA Championship the top 24 players were chosen for the Callaway Cup.

    The top 8 finishers were exempt from the first round of matches, the next 16 players had to play a match before Sept 13th and the results were, Barry Laphen defeated James Sperinck, Marc Blais defeated Brian McDonald, John Watson defeated Derek MacDonald, Marc Levac defeated Malcolm Trickey, Jason Winters defeated Gregg Foley, Bill Minkhorst defeated Eric Robillard, Dale Pedersen defeated Chris Learmonth, and Graham Gunn defeated John Kelly. The winners advanced to the matches on Monday September 15th.
     
    The A U R Pro-Pro Winners
    The Winning Team from the Camelot Golf Club was Bill Keating and Roger Beale with a 9 under par 63, which under the cool conditions was a fine effort.

    Two Teams were close behind with 7 under scores of 65 they were the team Of Gregg Foley from the Kevin Haime golf School and his partner John Watson fro Golf O Max. Also at 65 were the team of Jean Leduc from the Hautes Plaines Golf Course and his partner Marc Foucault from Kingsway Park

    A U R Prp-Pro Event
    Sunday September 7th was a cool and windy day which saw 20 teams play the beautiful Eagle Creek Golf Club in Dunrobin, Ontario. The event was sponsored by the A U R prroducy which is part of the Fletcher Leisure Group. Representing the company were Russ Campbell and Keith Reiley who were there the whole day showing some 2009 product.

    The PGA Professionals who attended the event were very impressed and thanked the representatives whole heartely.
     
    The day would not have been complete without the appearance of Elvis and his Piano Player,
    the team just missed the prize list but with some practice they could be in the winners circle next year.
     
    The Titleist/Footjoy Ottawa PGA Championship
    The Titleist / Footjoy Ottawa PGA Championship was held on August 25th and 26th at the GreyHawk Facility a property of Clublink. The Championship was held over two days the first day the Preditor Golf Course was used and the second day the Talon course was played. The golf courses were in great shape and the largest field to partake in the Championship to date were very pleased with the conditions and with the Title Sponsor Titleist.

    The top five Head Professionals in this event receive an exemption into the Club Professional Tournament held in Florida in mid November also Sponsored by Titleist / Footjoy.

    The 2008 Champion is Chris Barber, this Chris's third Championship having won the event in 2005,2006 and 2008. Chris was 8 under par for the event, followed closly by Luke Saunders with a 5 under par finish.

    Scholarship Winner
    New to the Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour this year was a partnership with the Kevin Haime Golf Incentive Foundation. Briefly the foundation was set up to help children get access to memberships at golf clubs and receive instruction from CPGA Professionals.

    The Foundation donated $1000 worth of Golf Lessons to be given by the CPGA Professional of the recipients choice. The five Juniors chosen were Anthony VanKessel, Ryan henderson, Matthew Henderson, Gabrielle Holden-Lathin and Neil Jeffries.

    The Kevin Haime Foundation also donated a $1000 Scholarship and this years recipient, pictured here is Gary Graveline accepting the award from Lisa Haime from the Foundation.

    The Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour was a great success and we expect to be bigger and better for next year. For the final point standings and other information please go to the junior page.
     
    Ontario Team Championships
    The top four Junior and Juvenile boys with the most amount of points through the tour and the top two girls will represent the Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour at the Ontario Team Championships being held at the Barcoven Golf Club August 27th and 28th.

    Representing the boys from left to right are Gary Graveline, Maxx Rochette, Brennan Smith and Patrick Boudreault. The girls will be represented by Brooke Henderson and missing from this picture Michelle Zomers.

    This is a very competetive team and should do very well against many other Junior Tours from all over Ontario.

     
    Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour Championship
    The 2008 version of the Junior Challenge tour started with a rainout and ended the same way. The players were able to finish eight holes before play had to be suspended, due to heavy rain and hail with lightning. After an hour delay the decision was made that the course would be unplayable and daylight would run out so the Championship had to be cancelled.

    The day concluded with an excellent meal and then the prize presentations. Pictured here are some of the overall winners.
     
    Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour

    The Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour finished its fourth event today at Mountain Creek Golf Club In Arnprior. In the boys 17-18 Division Brennan Smith was low with a 72, followed by Chad Denault and Billy Seidl with 74’s. In the 14-16 Division with the low round of the day was Grant Barr (pictured to the left) with a 71 followed by Ryan Henderson, Patrick Boudreault and Eric Martel with 76’s. In the 10-13 division Cooper Brown records his third victory with a 76 followed by Jackson Haime with an 85. The girls 14-18 was again won by Michelle Zomers with an 87 followed by Alexa Murray with a 90. In the 10-13 division Brooke Henderson wins again with an 81 followed by Alexa Hodgkinson with a 95.     Ottawa PGA Summer Open
    After two hazardous weather delays the tournament finally finished with a five person playoff in the dark. the low score for the day was a 2 under par 69 by Terry Kolar who was playing in the Senior Division of the event.

    After a half hour delay in the mid afternoon, the remaining players again had to leave the course at 7pm and were able to restart at 7:45. When everyone was in there was a five way tie at 71 in the main event, Michael Dagenais, Marc Levac, Jason Winters, Chris Barber and Marc Foucault all teed off in near darkness and after two holes Marc Foucault was declared the Summer Open Champion.     The event was co-sponsored by Cleveland Golf and Golf Trends, pictured here is Paul Moffatt the representative from Golf Trends. The Ottawa PGA  membership is very appreciative of such Sponsors and proved there point by having the largest turnout for a tournament in many years.
     
    Ottawa PGA Senior Championship
    Monday July 21st. had the Ottawa PGA Seniors playing for the Stan Kolar trophy at the Mississippi Golf Club. The golf course was in immaculate condition, the day started with a little rain but cleared up very nicely. Twenty-one players took part in the day which had Terry Kolar winning for the second year in a row. Terry is pictured with his mother Marie and the trophy which is in honor of his father Stan.

    Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge Tour

    The Manderley on the Green Golf Club was in wonderful shape and proved to be a challenge for some of the Juniors that played. There were some repeat winners in their divisions, Gary Graveline won the Junior Division with a fine even par 72, while Cooper Brown repeated in the bantam division with a 74. It was a repeat performance in the older girls division by Michelle Zomers with a 90 and Brooke Henderson repeated in her division with an 82. New to the winners circle in the juvenile division was Jake Craven with a 75.

    July 11th was a great day for golf at the Prescott Golf Club, it was the second stop on the Ottawa PGA Junior Challenge tour. Gary Graveline on the far left shot an even par 70 in the Junior Division (17-18) and Cooper Brown in the gold shirt was low Bantam (10-13) with a 73, the Juvenile Division (14-16) was won by Patrick Boudreault with a 75 and ten year old Brooke Henderson shot a 75 in the girls Division.     The TaylorMade Adidas Spring Open
    The Canadian Professional Golfers Association of Ottawa held the Spring Open Sponsored by TaylorMade Adidas. The Brockville Golf & Country Club hosted the event on June 16th. The course was in beautiful condition and there greens staff are to be complimented.

    Jonathan Schaepper the Head Professional from Mountain Creek Golf Club in Arnprior Ontario finished on top of the main division with a 2 under par 70, Brian McDonald from the Cornwall Golf & Country Club won the senior division with a 1 under par 71.

    The Ottawa CPGA tournament schedule is about to start again this year at the historic Brockville Golf & Country Club on Monday June 16th. The Captain’s committee has been working very hard to find Sponsors for these events.

     

    The field is one of the largest turnouts in the last few years and will have past winner as well as past Zone Champions playing in the event. Tee times will begin at 12:30pm.
